The Tobacco Control Commission held tobacco industry seminar at Ufulu Gardens, area 43, Lilongwe from Sunday, 28th September 2014 to 30th October 2014. The seminar kicked off at 16:00hrs with introductory remarks by the CEO of TCC Dr. Bruce Munthali, statements by the TCC board chairman Inkosi ya Makosi M'mbelwa V and the Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining and last by not least, the opening address by the Guest of Honour, Honourable Tupele Muluzi. Among the invited were tobacco buying companies, traders, government representatives, African regional partners and many more with interests in the sector. Each year TCC organizes a seminar that acts as a feedback mechanism to all stakeholders in the industry and also serves as an open forum to discuss and work out resolutions to the issues that the tobacco industry is currently facing.
The theme of the seminar was “Moving towards Industry Sustainability”. “We are proud to be hosting a seminar where participants are given an opportunity to present their concerns to the Tobacco Control Commission as Malawis’ Tobacco Industry regulatory body” said Dr. Bruce Munthali, CEO of Tobacco Control Commission.
